Steve Miller Band: Fly Like An Eagle
Original Release: 1976 Mercury
Reissue: 1979 Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab
Ranked as one of the top 500 albums of all time, Fly Like an Eagle, the ninth studio album by the Steve Miller Band, is the one that pushed Miller into a level of mass recognition that was long overdue. A 1976 Capital Records release that spawned three tracks that gained much airplay, including the title track, Take the Money and Run, and Rock’n Me.
Even with the commercial success of Fly Like an Eagle, Steve Miller has consistently maintained the rock foundation that led him to create such a consistent album as this, one that continues to get airplay on classic rock stations to this day. Fly Like an Eagle remains one of Miller’s most successful songs to date. This is partially because of the psychedelic effects, clean mix of smooth vocals, and strong instrumentation.
While the original pressing sounds great, this pressing by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab is the best version I have heard to date. The soundstage is booming and the sonic detail leaps from the vinyl. Without a doubt, if you are a SMB fan or simply love classic rock, this pressing is a worthwhile investment and a version that every vinyl collector should consider adding to the ever-growing collection.💰
