Rolling Stones: Hackney Diamonds

Release: 2023 Geffen/Polydor

Rolling Stones: Hackney Diamonds

The Rolling Stones are without question a legendary rock band. A band that has evolved with the times and the tastes of their fan base. Throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s their core style was blues-rock. The 90s and 00s saw a shift to incorporate a more pop oriented sound.

With the release of Hackney Diamonds the stones move back to a sound that is more in line with their rock n’ roll roots. As a matter of fact, this is probably the closest they’ve come to creating music that reflects their roots since the early 80s.

We have to give the Stones credit for making a very listenable record in their 7th decade together. To make such a release nearly 70 years after their formation is commendable, as it is difficult for many bands to achieve such a feat beyond their first release, let alone their first decade, if they last that long.

Regarding the pressing, Hackney Diamonds sounds okay on vinyl. The tested version is a Major League Baseball white vinyl edition. These guys still no how to market themselves as well. We look for Taylor Swift to do the same with the NFL for her next release.

This is a mass produced record that came with a lot of hype. To expect a better than average pressing is wishful thinking. There’s not a lot of detail, separation, or dynamic range. It is what it is, a mass produced vinyl record by a big label and big band. That said, it is a worthwhile listen.
