Miles Davis: Kind of Blue
Original Release: 1959 Columbia
Reissue: 2022 Analogue Productions
Kind of Blue by Miles Davis is the quintessential jazz record. It is the type of record every jazz enthusiast should own. Like jazz or not, it is also one one that anyone who appreciates great music should add to their collection. After all, there's a reason this record ranks so high on everyone's list, not just ours.
Davis spent much of his career pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz music. Never satisfied. Always innovating. Just when he started to feel comfortable with a sound, he’d change it up.
Kind of Blue was Davis’ 28th studio album and arguably his best. What makes this record so special isn’t just Miles Davis’ musicianship, but the musical prowess of the entire band. The sextet included Jazz greats John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb, and Wynton Kelly appearing on one track in place of Bill Evans.
On this record Davis departs from his “hard bop” style in favor of experimentation with mood and texture.
He gave each of the performers a set of parameters within which they could work, which in turn gave them great improvisational range and flexibility. Kind of Blue continues to be one of the most listened-to, admired, and studied recordings of all time. It is a required primer for anyone, young or old, who wishes to master music.
Regarded by many as Davis’ masterpiece, Analogue Productions gives Kind of Blue the respect it deserves with their UHQR release. Quiet, clean, crisp, warm, dynamic, and sonically expansive. When Analogue Productions and Quality Record Pressing connect, they tend to hit it out of the park. They did that with this release.

This 2 Lp 45rpm release pressed on 200 gram "clarity vinyl" could be the best available version of Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. Or at least that's our opinion. If there is better version we haven’t found it yet. 💰
