Marvin Gaye: What’s Going On

“What’s Going On” is an iconic record by Marvin Gaye. It is not only a political statement during a time when the voices of minorities in positions of influence were desperately needed, but it is a masterfully constructed musical endeavor. One that remains timeless and sits at the top of many of the greatest albums of all time.

Because of that, any reissue of such a record must be done with care, especially one that claims to be of an audiophile level. Having previously released a well respected Original Master Recording of this same record, MOFI had to justify releasing another remaster of this album. After all, it is more than twice the price of a current Original Master Recording and the previous set a fairly high standard.

That said, Mobile Fidelity’s UltraDisc version certainly met the challenge well. The detail and dynamic balance certainly exceed MOFI’s original release of this recording. That is not something many of the more recent UltraDiscs releases have been able to achieve
