Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin's self-titled debut (aka: Led Zeppelin I) is a mix of original material and remakes of contemporary blues and folk songs. The album showcases the fusion of blues and rock in the style of the time, which was the emerging hard rock sound. The record launched Zeppelin into hard rock stardom, as the album experienced immediate commercial success, reaching top 10 status on both the U.S. and U.K charts. The band's status as hard rock icons was solidified by their follow up album, Led Zeppelin II.

Bernie Grundman release Led Zeppelin under the Classic Records label in 2003. Pressed on QUIEX SV-P 200 gram vinyl, the Classic Records pressing is, at the time of this post, the best pressing of this album on vinyl at 33 RPM. This pressing has the low-end presence that the original release lacked. It is clear, dynamic, possesses transparent midrange, and sharp treble. Couple all that with low or virtually non existent surface noise and you have a winner all around. This record represents the energy and sound that must have been present in the studio.

If you are a die hard Zeppelin fan, this is the record you will want to put on your wish list. The only version that may sound better is the 45 RPM four record set released by Classic Records in 2008. However, it commands a lot of money on the secondary market. Therefore, this is the release for those who love the band and the album. It may still be a lot of money, but it will definitely not disappoint. One word of caution if you choose to pursue this release. Be sure it is free of the notorious non-fill issues that many of the 200 gram vinyl records released by Classic Records was haunted by. 💰
